LastPass vault identities

If you store a lot of items in LastPass, your vault may get a bit crowded, and become difficult to easily find the items you need. To solve this problem, you can create mini-vaults, called identities, where the items in a given identity are all similar.

How do I create an identity?

  1. Log in to LastPass and access your vault by doing either of the following:
    • In your web browser toolbar, click the LastPass icon and select Open My Vault.
    • Go to https://lastpass.com/?ac=1 and log in with your email address and master password.
  2. Select Advanced Options > Add identities in the left navigation.
  3. In the lower-right corner, click the Add icon .
  4. Enter a name for the new identity.
  5. Optional: If desired, check the box for the Require Master Password Reprompt setting.
  6. Drag and drop items from the "Available Items" (center) column to the "Selected Items" (right) column to include in the new identity.

Tip: You can add the same items into more than one identity.

  7. Click Save.

You have created a new vault identity containing your selected items.

How do I edit an identity?

You can change the name of your vault identity and/or manage the site passwords, notes, and items associated with it.

  3. Hover over the identity you want to update, then click the Edit icon in the right navigation.
  4. If prompted, enter your master password then click Continue.

Tip: If desired, you can check the box to enable the Do not re-prompt for option, and use the drop-down menu to select a time interval. However, this is not recommended when using a public or untrusted computer.

  5. Make your desired changes to the name and selected items.
  6. Optional: If desired, check the box for the Require Master Password Reprompt setting.

Click Save when finished.

How do I delete an identity?

You can delete any identity that you no longer need.

Important:  Deleting an identity does not delete the items associated with it, they are still accessible within other identities or the "All" identity.

  3. Hover over the identity you want to delete, then click the Delete icon in the right navigation.
  4. If prompted, enter your master password then click Continue.

Tip: If desired, you can check the box to enable the Do not re-prompt for option, and use the drop-down menu to select a time interval. However, this is not recommended when using a public or untrusted computer.

  5. When prompted, click Yes to confirm.
