Wireless Microphones

The DMS has wireless handheld, headset and lavalier (clip-on) microphones available for loan. 

These mics can only be used in spaces that are equipped with wireless receivers. See list of rooms and frequencies below. There are two charts, one for the Shure mics for Hyflex 2/2A rooms and one for the Sennheiser mics for Hyflex 1 rooms.

Hyflex 2/2A - Shure ULX Wireless Microphone supported rooms at Lehigh University

These wireless microphones are either a handheld or a lapel microphone. The lapel mic bodypack transmitter is the Shure ULX1 J1. It operates on the frequency range of 554 - 590 MHz. The handheld mic is the Shure SM58 model ULX2-J1. The receiver model is the Shure ULXP4. 

*If you are using two microphones they must be on the frequencies as indicated. If both mics are powered on with the same group/channel then neither mic will work.

Any of these microphones can be used in the listed spaces by matching the transmitted frequency on the mic to the receiver installed in the room. Programming instructions as well as the list of room frequencies are included in the bag with the microphone. The main purpose of these wireless mics are to provide sound reinforcement for individuals in the physical space itself. The AV system must be powered on from the touch panel for the mics to work. Speech levels are adjusted from the mic volume controls on the touch panel. 

For rooms that have fixed cameras and microphones, the sound picked up by the mics will be added to the recording, or to the distant end of a live video conference using the mounted cameras.

Shure ULXJ1 mic frequency programming instructions:

1. Power the microphone on with the switch at the top of the unit.
2. Press “Mode” button and press and hold until the channel number disappears.
3. Click the “Set” button until the desired group disappears.
4. Press “Mode” again and click “Set” until the correct channel appears.
5. Press “Mode” again to finalize settings.

Be sure to turn microphone power off after each use. Settings will be retained.

Standard 9 volt batteries may be loaded from the bottom of the unit as needed. One battery lasts for approximately 8 hours.

Hyflex 1 - Sennheiser Wireless Microphone supported rooms at Lehigh University

Mic instructions: Hyflex 1 microphones need to be programmed by the Digital Media Studio before loan. These wireless microphones are either a handheld, headset or a lapel microphone. The bodypack transmitter model is the Sennhesier SK-XSW. It operates on the frequency range of 548 - 572 MHz. The receiver model is the Sennhesier EM-XSW1. The handheld mic is the Sennheiser SKM 835-XSW with the e835 capsule.

Sennheiser SK-XSW mics can only be programmed with access to a receiver in order to synchronize the transmitter to the receiver. 

*Note. Specific rooms require a setting change in the PC sound settings for room sound. Rooms controlled by the touch panel don't require this change.

*Windows 11 Hyflex 1 microphone instructions:

1. Go to search then type mmsys.cpl
2. Under the Sound menu go to the Recording tab.
3. Find the Microphone on the list.
4. Click to highlight the microphone and click Properties.
5. Go to the Listen tab.
6. Click the checkbox for Listen to this device.
7. Click apply.

Shure QLXD1 Wireless Microphone supported rooms at Lehigh University

Mic instructions: These new wireless microphones are clip on lapel mics. The bodypack transmitter model is the Shure QLXD1. It operates on the frequency range of 470 - 534 MHz. 

Shure QLXD1 mic frequency programming instructions:

1. Power the microphone on with the switch at the top of the unit.
2. Open the front cover by pinching the two buttons on each side.
3. Tap the "Menu" button once.
4. Press the arrows up or down to selected the desired Group #
5. Press the “Enter" button to finalize the Group setting.
6. Press the arrows up or down to selected the desired Channel #
7. Press the “Enter” button again to finalize the Channel setting.

Shure BLX1 Wireless Microphone supported rooms at Lehigh University

Mic instructions: These new wireless microphones are clip on lapel mics. The bodypack transmitter model is the Shure BLX1 H10. It operates on the frequency range of 542 - 572 MHz. 

Wired Microphones

Wired microphones such as the Shure SM57 are also available for loan. These wired mics can be plugged into room podiums with auxiliary mic inputs or stand alone PA systems, mixers or speakers. Separate equipment such as a mixer or iRig Pro would be required for them to work with a desktop computer, laptop, or phone. They are durable, high quality and easy to use. The only drawback is that the user is limited in their ability to walk around since the mic is attached to a piece of equipment. The DMS has various lengths of mic cables available for loan with the wired microphones.

Panel Microphones

Panel microphones are available at the DMS. These mics come in sets of three, and are ideal if you are conducting a live panel discussion or interview with seated individuals. The “pickup pattern” of the mics allow for two people to share one microphone, so they can accommodate up to six panelists. These mics are stationary and do require cables. Most, but not all campus auditoriums support auxiliary microphones. Separate equipment such as a mixer or iRig Pro would be required for them to work with a desktop computer, laptop, or phone. Please inquire with DMS staff to see if the panel microphones can be used in your particular space.
