Install and Configure Remote Desktop Connection on Android Devices

Microsoft supplies a client for their Remote Desktop Connection system for Android devices, allowing them to connect to Windows PC desktops remotely. Follow the instructions below to install the client software and configure it for your PC.

1. Open the Google Play Store from your Home screen, and search for 'Remote Desktop Connection' in the search bar at the top of the window. On the record titled 'Microsoft Remote Desktop', tap the 'Install' button, and wait for the download and installation to complete. When the button changes to 'Open', tap that.

2. When the program opens, hit 'Accept' to accept the license agreement. Tap the '+' button in the upper right, and then tap 'Desktop' in the resulting menu.

3. Initially, the program will scan your nearby network for Windows PCs to which to connect. It's recommended to click 'Add Manually' instead. In the resulting window, type your PC's network name or IP address in the 'PC Name' blank. If desired, tap the carat next to 'Show Additional Options' and enter a descriptive 'Friendly Name' for this connection.

When you're done, tap the 'Save' button in the upper right.

4. Back on the main screen for the app, you'll see a large button for the connection. Tap that to start the connection. You may need to enter a username and password if you didn't store one. You'll also likely see a warning about the system not having a traceable certificate. Tap the box next to 'Never ask again for connections to this PC', and then tap 'Connect' to continue connecting.

5. When the connection completes, the PCs desktop will appear, with some controls overlaid at the top center of the screen. Generally, tapping the screen equates to a mouse click, and tapping the keyboard icon brings up an on-screen keyboard. To disconnect, tap the 'menu' icon (three horizontal lines) and then tap the 'X' on the miniature view of the desktop.
