Corporate compliance videos

A collection of videos made by corporations (or rather their compliance depts) to encourage employees to adhere to legal requirements. It's harder than you might think! All links go to YouTube. You might to browse around the additional suggested YouTube videos if this interests you – there's an entire world of corporate compliance work...and that world needs instructional design, lots and lots and lots of instructional design....

  • Corporate Compliance and Singing Prisoners (B. Braun) – this is the video that first introduced me to this concept
  • B. Braun 2011 Compliance Video – same source. Got me wondering: Must these always feature music? Specifically, humorous music? But look at it as an instructional designer: What's the pay-off of choosing this strategy? Why might musical numbers be a preferred mode for instruction for affective outcomes?
  • Understanding Corporate Compliance: What's Your Role? (HC Marketplace) – I chose this video for two reasons: (1) It gives you a little background on corporate compliance, in case you don't know what it is. (2) It also provides a counter-example to the previous two videos. No singing is involved! But how effective is it at its task?
  • What is Compliance and Why Is It Important? (Younique) – Apparently this is a video by Younique (a direct sales company...yikes!) and is part of its employee training. Note how hard the video is trying to balance (off-set?) the seriousness of the topic and the breeziness of the presentation. A paradox of compliance work.
  • Words Matter (Cleveland Clinic) – This video isn't trying to get someone to adhere to a legal requirement but rather a best practice.
  • Corporate Compliance Confidential (Not sure who the originator was, but it's currently packaged by YAINETWORK) – I have to say that as an educator, I've never thought about nor encountered an offer of money for giving a student extra attention. But if I were a medical care provider? Whoa! Who knew?
  • Compliance Video - Spoof on Ferris Beuller (Vision 2 Video) – Apparently this video was created to intro a speaker on compliance. Note that the effectiveness of this video completely depends upon the audience (a) recognizing the scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and (b) finding this funny or at least tolerable.
  • Compliance: The Perfect Storm (Video created to promo the Health Care Compliance Association 2010 annual conference) – Kind of a fear-based motivation? Weird. Anyway: This is a video aimed at compliance officers to motivate them to attend an annual conference about healthcare compliance.
