For Students: How to Annotate in Perusall

Your professor may have chosen to use Persuall in their course.  Perusall is a social annotation tool that allows students and their instructors to collaboratively markup digital textbooks, PDF documents, and a variety of other sources. Instead of reading a document and discussing it, Perusall brings the discussion to the text.  Perusall scores each assignment based on quality, quantity, and distribution of student annotations, comments, and replies. All default settings for scoring are customizable by the instructor so be sure to learn about your own professor's expectations for assignments in advance.

Getting Started

To use Perusall in your course, you will need to click the Perusall link that has been added to your Course Site course by your professor. You will be prompted to accept the terms of service. Once you do this, you will be enrolled in the Perusall course and able to complete assignments.

Accessing Assignments

ALWAYS access assignments in Perusall by clicking on the specific assignment link in Course Site. Clicking that link should take you directly to the assignment itself. Never access assignments in any other way as it may cause problems with the grade transfer process to Course Site.
