Allow one student to submit for a group in course site assignments

Assignments can be set up in Course Site so that students can submit, and be graded, individually or as a group.

To allow students to submit once for an entire group, change the "Students submit in groups" option in the Group submission settings to "Yes."

This setting will enable one student to submit a file for the entire group.  An instructor can then grade and offer feedback that will be distributed to all group members.  If needed, the instructor can give a different grade/feedback to the respective students.

Then select the correct grouping.

In most cases, students are likely members of multiple groups (for example, the student has been added to a section group as well as a working group), the "Grouping for student groups" choice under Group submissions settings must be set appropriately.

If the grouping is not set up, the first submission will be added to the "default group."  This means that assignments will be added for each student in the class.  To fix this, you must create a grouping. A grouping is simply a collection of groups.

You can also think of a grouping as a collection of teams.

  1. To add a new grouping, select the Groupings option in the Participants drop-down inside a course and select Create grouping. Save.

  2. Now you need to add groups to your grouping.  Click the "Show groups in grouping" people icon in the edit column.

  3. On the add/remove groups page, select the group(s) you want to add to the grouping from the "Potential members" list.

  4. Click the arrow button that points towards the "Existing members" list.

  5. Click the "Back to groupings" button. The group(s) you added to the grouping will now be listed in the table on the groupings page.

Here is more detailed information about groupings for Moodle 4.1.
