Embedding JoVE Videos into Course Site

Before starting to embed videos, please login to your JoVE account. If you don’t have a JoVE account yet, please sign up at https://www.jove.com/account

Make sure you select a role of “Faculty” when creating your account. This role enables embed codes you create to have access keys in them. *IMPORTANT - Without the access key, the embed code will not work correctly for off campus students. 

1. Below the JoVE video that you want to embed click on the ‘<> EMBED’ button.
2.  Copy the embed code.
3. Log into Course Site.
4.  Select the appropriate course from 'My courses’.
5.  At the upper right you will see a ‘Turn editing on’ button or a ‘Turn editing off ’button. Make sure editing is on.
6. Once you have chosen the appropriate week or topic, click on ‘+Add an activity or resource’.
7. From the menu, select 'Page’.
8. Click the ‘add’ button at the bottom.
9. Go to the ‘General ’section and add a name to the page in the ‘Name’ box.
10. In the ‘Content’ section click on the button farthest to the left (‘Show more buttons’ button).
11. Click on the ‘<> EMBED’ button. 1
12.  Paste the Embed Code into the ‘Page content’ box.
13. Click ‘Save and return to course’ button.
14. Now when you click on the activity from the course page the video will show up.
15. Click on the Settings button and select ‘Turn editing off‘. 

Loading a Common Cartridge File With JoVE Content

Common Cartridges - are associated with one course site and can’t be copied to a new course section. However, cartridges  come with additional text and references for students.. Embedded videos don't have additional reading and references.  

1. Log into Course Site
2. Select the appropriate course from 'My courses'.
3. Click on the Settings button on top right and select ‘Turn editing on’
4. Click on ‘Add an activity or resource’ and from there scroll down to ‘Resources’ and select ‘IMS content package’
5. Click ‘Add’
6. Name your Common Cartridge and click ‘Choose a file’
7. Upload the Common Cartridge saved on your computer [To request a common cartridge please contact your Curriculum Specialist]
8. Click ‘Save and return to course’
9. Click on the Settings button and select ‘Turn editing off’
10. Click on the Common Cartridge Load and from here you can view all videos uploaded
