Apple Mac computers are increasingly common on the Lehigh campus.
The typical productivity software used by faculty and staff, such as Lehigh Gmail, Google Suite and Microsoft Office, operate similarly on Mac and Windows. However, some administrative tasks that rely on Microsoft Access, such as Desktop Finance, cannot be performed in macOS natively. Macs are able to access Lehigh-licensed Windows software applications remotely via LUApps. There are also several alternatives to add Windows capabilities to a Mac, including free solutions such as Boot Camp or VirtualBox. However, these are non-trivial to set up and support.
Computing Consultants can provide additional guidance for specific situations.
Lehigh's Purchasing Office requires that Proposals/Quotes be attached to a Purchase Requisition or processed through Unimarket.
Computing Consultants can create Apple Proposals/Quotes for institutional purchases.
Faculty and Staff can create their own Proposals through Apple's ecommerce site by creating and registering a dedicated AppleID for this purpose, and requesting access to Lehigh's account page via myaccess.apple.com (choose Lehigh University, "AP" as your Location.) See the StepByStep2023.pdf. Purchasers can also call 800-800-APPL for assistance with this process.
Recommended Warranty
Lehigh recommends Apple's 3-year "AppleCare+" warranty for computers. Limited accidental damage protection is provided with AppleCare+ (see details.)
