Installing Cisco Jabber
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before starting this installation, your device (computer or mobile) must be connected to Lehigh’s VPN through Cisco Anyconnect if you are off campus.
- Download the macOS installation and launch the installation.
- Click Continue when the Welcome screen displays.
- Click Continue and Agree after reading the license agreement to accept the terms of the license agreement and continue with the installation.
You may be prompted to select the disk where you want to install Jabber. Select your hard drive or another location on your computer and then click Continue. - Click Install to perform the standard installation.
- You may be prompted for your administrator account password; if so, enter your administrator account password and click Install Software.
- When the software has finished installing, click Close.
- Double-click the Cisco Jabber application icon to launch Jabber from the Applications folder.
- For the first time signing in, at Cisco Jabber screen, enter your userid@lehigh.edu
- You will be taken to a second sign-in screen; enter your userID (i.e. lh00 or bjp414) and password and click Sign In
- The first time you may be prompted to update your macOS security settings.
Configuration Settings
Your client is ready to send and receive phone calls but below are possible configuration changes you might want to investigate. To configure your Cisco Jabber client, locate the icon with your initials in the upper left corner of the Jabber client and select Preferences. Below are some recommendations.
General:
- On startup, check the Start Cisco Jabber when the computer starts box.
Audio/Video:
- The audio is dependent on the device used (e.g., PC or headset.) Select the desired choice for the Ringer, Speaker, and Microphone. Video is not supported.
Calls:
- Uncheck the Mute audio by default for Jabber calls box.
- Bring the Conversation window to the front:
- Computer/On all Calls
- Phone/On all Calls
Notifications
- Check the All incoming calls box.
- Check the Mute all sounds when on a call box.
- Set the desired ringtone.
Sign out and back in to the Jabber client to enable changes made in settings. Note: do not select “reset Jabber” during the sign-in process as this will return your settings to the default.
Important information
- Jabber must be open in order to receive calls. Otherwise, the call will go to voicemail.
- Jabber can only be active on ONE desktop device. You may not be in Jabber on multiple macOS and/or Windows machines. Jabber can be active on both a desktop and mobile device, however.
- When not on campus, you must enable the Lehigh VPN on your machine to use Jabber.
