Copy Course Material from One Course Site To Another

This documentation outlines the process for importing course content from a previous course to a current course for re-use. This process assumes you already have access to both the course you want to pull content from as well as the course you want to import content into. If you would like to import content from an older course that is no longer in Course Site, please contact submit a ticket to the Instructional Technology team making sure to include the name of the course you would like access to, what semester it is from, and how long you need temporary access to it.

Reusing Course Content

Course activities and resources may be imported from any other course in which you have editing permissions. This will allow you to reuse instead of re-creating one or more activities or resources. Import course data does not include any student data, e.g. forum posts or submitted assignments!

Please Note: When you import data, you will NOT overwrite any existing content in your course shell.

  • From Course navigation > More > Select Course reuse

  • Select the course you wish to import from and click Continue
  • You will be presented with the "import settings" page. In most cases, you will leave the default options selected.

  • Click Next
  • Select the course elements and topics you want to include in the import. You should uncheck any Turnitin, Perusall, Google Assignments, or Zoom Meeting links as these non-moodle activities need to be re-added to function properly.
  • After you have verified that you have selected or unselected the correct items: Click Next.
  • Carefully Review
  • Click Perform import once or click the cancel or previous buttons.  If you accidentally click the Perform import button more than once, you will have duplicate items in your course that you will then need to delete.
  • You should see the "Import complete. Click continue to return to the course" message, or an error message indicating that the import process did not take place.
