Windows: Configure Wireless Networking (Alternate Method)
This method is provided in case the primary configuration method isn't successful.
1. Right-click the wireless networks icon located on the Windows taskbar and select Open Network and Sharing Center.
2. Once the Network and Sharing Center window appears, click Manage Wireless Networks in the left column menu.
3. First, check for any existing profiles for the lehighwireless network. Any existing lehigh profiles will need to be removed. For instructions on removing old/existing profiles, please see the Removing Old/Existing Profiles or Credentialssection below.
If there are no existing lehigh profiles, click Add.
4. When the Manually connect to a wireless network window appears, enter lehigh for Network name and select WPA2-Enterprise for Security type. Leave all the other options/fields as they are. Click Next.
5. Despite the message reading Successfully added lehigh, you still need to specify additional settings in order to successfully connect. Click Change connection settings.
6. When the lehigh Wireless Network Propertieswindow appears, leave all the options under the Connection tab unchanged. Click the Securitytab.
7. Under the Security tab, Choose a network authentication method should be set to Microsoft Protected EAP (PEAP). Once that is set, click Settings.
8. When the Protected EAP Properties window appears, Validate Server Certificate should not be checked. Select Authentication Method should already be set to Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2). Once that is set, click Configure.
9. Make sure that Automatically use my Windows logon name and password... is not checked. Then click OK to close the EAP MSCHAPv2 Propertieswindow. Click OK to close the Protected EAP Properties window.
10. You should be back to the lehigh Wireless Network Properties window. Click Advanced Settings.
11. When the Advanced settings window appears, make sure you are on the 802.1X settings tab (this should be the default). Make sure Specify authentication mode is checked. Once checked, this will activate the drop down menu from which you should select User Authentication. It is imperative that you select User Authenticationand not any of the other variations within the drop down menu. Then, click OK to close the Advanced settings window. Click OK to close the lehigh Wireless Network Properties window.
12. If the settings discussed above are all correct, you will see an info bubble appear on your screen reading Additional information is needed to connect lehigh. Click anywhere on the info bubble.
13. You will be prompted for your Lehigh credentials. Enter your Lehigh username (abc123) and password into their respective fields and click OK.
14. To verify successful connection, click the wireless icon on the Windows taskbar again. If successfully connected, you will see Connected appear next to the lehigh wireless network.
