Staging and Retrieving Process Files and Logs
What’s happening
Following the transition to EC Banner, users will no longer have the ability to directly login to the application server (aka: lewis1) using the MobaXTerm tool ().
Today this is a method commonly used to:
1) run processes/scripts,
2) download output files, and
3) upload files for input.
Without MobaXTerm access, jobs previously run from a command prompt like this…
…will now be run as a Jobsub process directly in Banner, like this…
This still leaves the matter of staging and retrieving any related file prerequisites or output. In some cases, the method used for file handoffs will need to change.
As Enterprise Systems worked to convert processes to the new format, it incorporated the new methods of file transfers into them. Enterprise Systems can work with users to identify impacted procedures as user community testing proceeds.
What’s NOT changing
Any scenario where a file is saved or retrieved from a mapped network drive…
…should remain the same. These folders are not going away, and groups will be able to read and write to them as they do today. Important note: This does not mean the method used to create the file, or where the file needs to go to be used downstream, has not changed….
What is changing
To allow for server file access in EC Banner, there are 3 methods being used:
Banner Upload Tool (GUAUPLP)
This tool allows file upload to a specific server directory that jobs will then be able to read from. If you find you don’t have access to this screen and need it, contact Enterprise Systems. The steps to use this tool are similar to most webpage file upload interfaces:
Navigate to GUAUPLP:
Click Manual File Upload:
Click Continue:
Click Choose File:
Navigate and select the desired file, then Submit File:
Success will be indicated. If not, contact Enterprise Systems.
Any process requiring this file can now be run.
ECDL.CC.LEHIGH.EDU
This new server will allow MobaXTerm connections to upload and download files via SFTP. The connection to this server will resemble your connections to lewis1 today, and a select group of directories will be synchronized near real-time with the EC Banner application server. Security will be set up appropriately for each Department’s access. The steps to set up a new connection in MobaXTerm are as follows:
In MobaXTerm, select Session:
Enter required information:
You will see the session added, and a list of folders that are synchronized with the EC Banner server. This synchronization is 2-way, so files uploaded will transfer to EC Banner server. This provides another way to get input files staged, as well as retrieve output files (where applicable):
Jobsub Review Output
In the case of job/process output, many have been converted to provide most/all output via Banner’s integrated screens. After a jobsub has been submitted, the steps to view available output is:
From menu:
Enter Process, Number, and Desired File:
Click Go
The file displays as shown:
To print and/or save the file, from menu:
Confirm this selection:
The file opens directly in the browser, and a right-click allows Save and Print options:
