Mass Mailings and Surveys

Mass mailings come in several forms, and LTS can assist with a few different tools for each.

  • Announcements:
    • University Communications and Public Affairs (UCPA) publishes a daily digest of  "Upcoming Lehigh Events and Announcements," which links to their Events calendar service.  This daily message outlines events happening around campus over the next couple of weeks and is sorted into categories such as Announcements, Academics, Arts, Athletics, Student Life, etc.  You can subscribe to the daily list here.
    • UCPA now has a cloud service called FirstUp which they are using to send out mass mailings.
    • HawkWatch is Lehigh's emergency notification system and may be used to send life safety announcements, including closures for weather events.
    • Gmail Mail Merge. In June 2023 Google announced a new mass email option using Google Sheets.
    • LEG (Lehigh Email Generator) is Lehigh's tool used to send out professional looking mass mailings including announcements that cannot be unsubscribed from - Contact the LTS Help Desk to request LEG access and training.
      • Note: LEG users have the option of using noreply@lehigh.edu in the reply-to field. This email does not process bounces and sends replies to "null" (communication is one-way only).
    • Mergo and Mailmeteor are a couple of add ons to gmail that allow mail merge (personalized emails) and limited mass mailing in gmail for smaller audiences. Access to them is controlled by joining the Lehigh group - https://groups.google.com/a/lehigh.edu/g/mailmerge-list?hl=en.  These tools are limited by g suite sending limits ( https://support.google.com/a/answer/166852?hl=en ).
    • Some Lehigh departments use third-party vendors (including iModules, MailChimp, and ConstantContact) for mass mailings.
    • Google Groups - allow to communicate and collaborate with groups of people—such as project teams, departments, office locations, and special-interest groups. A group is like a mailing list: It contains the email addresses of its members, but also has its own address.
  • Surveys
