FAQ: Legacy (Administrative) LUapps via AWS AppStream

The information on this page refers to the legacy (Administrative/Banner) version of LUapps powered by AWS AppStream. For information about LUApps powered by Apporto, visit: FAQ: LUapps powered by Apporto.

The administrative version of LUapps provides access to a wide array of software applications via AWS AppStream.   All you need is an internet-capable device. Frequently asked questions are below.

Where do files get saved?

In the AWS version of LUapps, only network file storage locations are available for saving files -- your H: Drive, I: Drive, R: Drive, and Google Drive, as well as other network storage locations such as departmental file servers.

How do I access a departmental file server from a LUapps Desktop?

Departmental file servers appear in the Windows File Explorer under “Network locations”.

How do I access my Google Drive from a LUapps Desktop?

To link your Google Drive, select “My Files" from the top menu bar, then "Add Storage". Select “Sign in with Google Drive” to link your Google Drive account. Once your account is linked, Google Drive files will appear in the “My files” menu.

How long can I stay logged into LUapps?

An active session stays connected for a maximum of 24 hours.  Your session will be automatically disconnected once you reach your limit even if you are actively using the application.  Please consider a local installation or contact your Computing Consultant if you need to run applications for longer periods.

How long can my LUapps session be idle before it is disconnected?

Your session will remain active for 2 hours without user input before it is automatically disconnected.  Feel free to grab a beverage or a bite to eat as long as you can do it within 2 hours.

Can retired faculty and staff use AWS LUapps?

Retired faculty and staff do not have access to LUapps. Users will receive a message that "An unknown error occurred (1385).

Troubleshooting:

What if I get a "no streaming resources are available" message?

If upon sign-in you see the message "no streaming resources are available for your session," it means that at the time you tried to sign in, all available AWS sessions were currently in use by other users. This is the equivalent of walking into a physical computer lab and finding all computers currently in-use. AWS will be aware of your attempt to sign in, and will begin preparing additional resources, a process that takes 15-20 minutes. Wait patiently and then click RETRY.

My session keeps freezing. I log out but when I log back in the system returns to the same frozen session.

Contact the LTS Help Desk at 610-758-4357 to have your session unlocked.

I get the error message "The system cannot find the path specified. This working directory is invalid: h:\"

Go to accounts.lehigh.edu and log in. Choose the option to Reset H drive permissions. You'll see a message that "The repair operation has been initiated for XXXXXXX." Try logging into LUApps and launching the application (this should resolve the issue).

How do I print from within LUapps?

Within your application, print your output to the printer named "DCV Printer". This will cause a new web browser tab to open on your local computer from which you can print normally from.

How can I make the Desktop bigger/use full-screen?

Many users will prefer to use programs on AppStream in "Full Screen" mode. However, if the user enters full-screen mode by clicking the corresponding symbol on the AppStream Toolbar, then the "Esc" key will exit out of full-screen mode. This may be undesirable as the "Esc" key is commonly used in different programs. There are workarounds for this for users on both Windows and Mac computers.

Windows: Enter full-screen mode using the button on the AppStream toolbar, then exit using the "F11" key instead of "Esc". Pressing "F11" a second time will then bring the window back to full-screen, but "Esc" will not exit this view. The AppStream toolbar will remain at the top of the window, but the browser UI will be hidden.

Mac: Use the green "Maximize" button to enter full-screen mode. The AppStream toolbar will remain at the top of the window, but "Esc" will not exit full-screen mode.
