Lehigh Departure: Account Essentials

Lehigh Departure: Account Essentials

As you prepare to graduate or otherwise conclude your time at the University, it is crucial to recognize that your dedicated Lehigh computing and email account will eventually be disabled. This transition is essential, but it carries a significant action item: if you previously registered for personal online services—such as banking, social media, or shopping accounts—using your Lehigh email address, recovering access to those services after your University account is deactivated can become difficult, or even impossible. To prevent being locked out of your essential personal life, you must proactively update your contact information across all external services before your departure.

The account transition grace periods are as follows:

  • Students' computing accounts are deleted / transitioned approximately 1 year after graduation / separation from Lehigh University.

  • Faculty and Staff computing accounts are deactivated / transitioned 7 days from their last working day with a termination notice from our payroll department.

A few things to remember:

  • Data, documents or personal online accounts should be copied and / or changed during the computing account grace periods. Failing to do so may result in loss of data or difficulty getting into personal online accounts after the computing account is transitioned.

  • An account may be transitioned / closed earlier if the account is inactive (expired password in excess of 6 months).

  • Notifications of account deletions / transitions come from a few different areas like Alumni relations, LTS incom@lehigh.edu or luacct@lehigh.edu. These notifications are sent to your Lehigh email and in some cases your personal email on file. Please check your junk / spam folders.

    • It is important that you review the personal email you have on file and update it if necessary. There are 2 systems (Banner and Identity Management) that store your personal email in order to send the following notifications and for password recovery when using Forgot Lehigh Password. For detailed information on how to update your personal email and more, please see Account Recovery with Personal Email FAQ
