Gemini Prompts

Gemini Prompts

To write an effective prompt for a Gem, think of it as giving instructions to a new colleague rather than a search query. The more detail and structure you provide, the better the result will be.

Here is a succinct breakdown of the best practices:

  1. Define the Persona: Tell Gemini what role to play. Examples: "Act as a marketing consultant," "You are a seasoned journalist," or "Adopt the persona of a high school history teacher."

  2. State the Task: Be clear and specific about the action you want it to perform. Use strong action verbs. Examples: "Summarize this article," "Draft an email," "Rewrite this paragraph," or "Create a project plan."

  3. Provide Context: Give all necessary background information. This is where you explain the "why" and "what." Include relevant facts, data, or a description of the situation.

  4. Specify the Format: Tell Gemini how you want the output to be structured. Examples: "as a bulleted list," "in a two-column table," "as a short, descriptive paragraph," or "limit to 500 words."

  5. Refine and Iterate: The first response is a starting point. If the result isn't what you need, use follow-up prompts to refine it. For example, "Make that more formal," "Can you shorten it to three sentences?" or "Change the tone to be more persuasive."
