Installing Cisco Jabber
IMPORTANT NOTE: Your Windows PC must be running Windows 10. Jabber is not supported on earlier versions of Windows.
- Download the Windows installation and launch the installation.
- Open downloads and run the Cisco Jabber Client you just downloaded. (If Cisco Jabber is already installed you will see a Repair or Remove option.)
- Select Accept and install when prompted with the License Agreement.
- Select Yes to the User Access Control prompt. The Launch Cisco Jabber box should remain checked.
- Check the box to Start Cisco Jabber and select Finish.
- Cisco Jabber will open and is ready for configuration and use.
- Sign In on the Cisco Jabber Client with your full Lehigh email and password. Subsequent sign-ons require only your Lehigh Username and password.
Configuration Settings
Your client is ready to send and receive phone calls but below are possible configuration changes you might want to explore. To configure your Cisco Jabber client, locate the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen and select Settings from the drop-down menu.
General:
- On startup, check the Start Cisco Jabber when the computer starts box. Click Apply. If you opt out of this setting, you will need to launch Cisco Jabber manually from the Windows Start menu in order to receive call notifications.
Audio:
- The audio is dependent on the device used (e.g., PC or headset.) Select the desired choice for the Ringer, Speaker, and Microphone.
Calls:
- Check the Mute audio by default for Jabber calls box.
- Bring the Conversation window to the front:
- Computer/On all Calls
- Phone/On all Calls
Video:
- Lehigh does not support video calls at this time.
Notifications:
- Check the All incoming calls box.
- Check the Mute all sounds when on a call box.
- Set the desired ringtone.
For more configuration settings, locate the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen and select View from the drop-down menu.
Sign out and back in to the Cisco Jabber client to enable changes made in settings. Note: do not select “reset Jabber” during the sign-in process as this will return your settings to the default.
Important information
- Jabber must be open in order to receive calls. Otherwise, the call will go to voicemail.
- Jabber can only be active on ONE desktop device. You may not be in Jabber on multiple macOS and/or Windows machines. Cisco Jabber can be active on both a desktop and mobile device, however.
- The Windows Jabber client will occasionally require updating. When this occurs, you will be prompted to accept the update.
