By default, your grades and feedback should be visible to your students. However, there are settings that can be changed that cause these elements to be hidden from students. Here are the more common ways they may be flagged as hidden.


The entire Gradebook may be inaccessible to students in the course settings.

  • Go to your course Settings in your course, turn on edit mode, find Appearance General settings, and confirm if gradbook is set to to show.

A The Gradebook may be hidden.

  • In the Grades>Gradebook Setup, make sure the top level course name category is toggled to show.

In a quiz, students may not be able to view their attempt.

  • In the 'Review Options' section of the individual quiz, check the box(es) for "The attempt" as well as "Points" after the quiz in is closed in in the quiz settings.

In a quiz, the close date is not enabled or has not passed.

  • In quiz settings, expand 'Timing' and verify that the close date has passed and enabled.  In In order to function properly, all quizzes must have a closed date enabled.

The User Report may be hidden from students.

  • Grades>Grader Report Menu>Course Grade Settings > scroll to User Report, verify Show Grades is set to Default (Show)

An activity may be hidden in the course.

  • Set the individual quiz or activity to 'Show'. If set to 'Hide', it will also hide that grade in the Gradebook

An external tool activity type may be hidden in the course. The activity properties will be different than a standard course site activity.

  • Check Common Module Settings for TurnItIn and Google Assignments and review availability

A course site activity grade can also be hidden until a specific time and date in the 'Edit' section of the Gradebook Setup.

  • Find item in Gradebook Setup
  • Go to Edit>Edit settings>Show More
  • Update hide settings

Notes: You will not have the same options listed for other external tool  activities such as Turnitin and Google Assignments. It is NOT recommended to use the LOCK setting.

After verifying all of the above settings are set correctly, if students are still unable to see grades, changing toggling the above settings to 'Hide' then back to 'Show' will occasionally fix this issue.
