Comment: Added Windows 11 note for finding 'This PC'

These fsThese instructions are for any Lehigh user needing to manually map their personal LAN drive (H-drive) on computers that are not in Active Directory (AD), such as personally-owned machines. These instructions may also be useful for users who are traveling or living off-campus and connecting to the Lehigh network via the the Lehigh VPN.  Click on the screen shots to see an enlarged view.

Info

This process may also be used to overwrite a non-functioning mapping already assigned to the H: designation on your computer. When prompted in Step 6, allow the mapping to override your existing mapped drive.

1.  First, make sure you're connected to the Lehigh campus network, using either an Ethernet cable, Lehigh wireless, or over the internet using the VPN

2.  Right-Click on "This PC" icon and choose "Map Network Drive" from the contextual menu.

Note:  Windows 11 users may not see the "This PC" icon on their desktop, but can bring it up by clicking on their 'File Explorer' (folder) icon in the task bar, and right-clicking on the 'This PC' icon there, and clicking on 'Show more options'.  The resulting sub-menu matches the Windows 10 menu with the "Map Network Drive" option.

3.  Select "H:" from the "Drive" pull-down.

Info

If your H: designation has already been assigned, and you do not wish to overwrite it, simply pick any unused letter to map the storage drive.

4.  In the "Folder:" box, enter the full UNC path to your personal LAN storage directory, according to the format shown, by substituting "<username>" with your Lehigh username (click on the screenshot to enlarge it):

Code Block
\\homefs.cc.lehigh.edu\home\<username>

For example, if your username were "dhj210", you would type:

Code Block
\\homefs.cc.lehigh.edu\home\dhj210

5.  If this computer is always connected to the Lehigh network, check the box for "Reconnect at sign-in".

6.  Click Finish.

7.   If you are prompted for a username and password, add the prefix "ad\" when entering your Lehigh username:

For example, your Lehigh username were "dab406", the username field should look like:

Code Block
ad\dab406

and then, enter your Lehigh password, and click "OK"
